Zu Recht regt man sich darüber auf.

Ticketpark findet auch: Die Ticketpreise in der Schweiz sind definitiv zu hoch! Ob Robbie Williams, Madonna, Genesis, die Rolling Stones oder wer auch immer.. schon 70 Franken schmerzen im Portemonnaie. Lieber bleiben wir den grossen Stadien fern und amüsieren uns vor dem Fernsehen… *g*

Zuerst wollte niemand die Tickets, nun spricht GoodNews von einem «enormen Ansturms auf Tickets».

Wie auch immer, Shakira kommt auf jeden Fall am 21. Februar für ein zweites Konzert ins Hallenstadion.

Eben noch waren sie Support-Band der Kooks im Volkshaus, jetzt schon sind sie unsere Interview-Partner: The Mondrians.

Maxime, Sänger und Kopf der Band, spricht über seine Band, MySpace und gibt Tipps für Newcomers.

Maxime, first, tell us a little about The Mondrians. Where are you from? How did you find together?
The Mondrians are a band formed in early 2005. Louis (bass) is my brother, I’ve known him from the beginning. Cédric (drums) called me once because I was looking for a drummer to form a band. At this time, we we were playing some concerts around the place where we live, in Wallis in Switzerland. A place where there’s absolutely no rock’n'roll scene. Our first shows were in some pubs, cafés and town parties. Our first gigs were cool, but something was missing. We started searching for another guitarist. And Alric was just coming for the recording of a 4 track home demo, in our rehearsal’s local, a wine cave. Our first demo was finished in May 2005. And then we played in some better venues, like the Bleu Lezard in Lausanne, l’Usine in Geneva, and some gigs in France, in Paris and Lyon.

You played as support band for the Kooks in Zurich. How did you manage to get this gig?
For several months, someone has taken interest in the band. I asked him if he could do something to be the support act for the Kooks. And he did it.

Why should everybody in Switzerland and the world get to know The Mondrians?
Because we play a simple garage rock’n'roll with good songs, nice tunes, simple lyrics about about life, about girls, relations, boys in the country and other things that people could interpret themselves. I think our songs are also for dancing and jumping. And people have to see the Mondrians on stage now, because we are young and honest.

You also have a page on myspace.com. Could you already take some benefit from that page? Is it helpful for a band to have a myspace page?
Hmm… Myspace is what helps a band who’s coming from nowhere and wants to take its chance in music. I think Myspace is good to discover new bands, or even new mates, but I don’t know if labels really pay attention to bands of myspace. They set up they own profile, and maybe they listen to some songs, but after that… Myspace is the weapon of a new generation of artists. But I don’t know if we’re really part of this generation. Nevertheless, it is helpful for a band because Myspace helps us find some gigs, in London and in France, and that’s already good.

You have already played many live gigs. What’s your tip for every young band out there who wants to get on stage?
Start a myspace!! Ahahah… No… I don’t know if I have some tips to give to some young bands but they have to record something, even live, where they practise. And spread their music for free, make their mates, family, sisters, brothers, girlfriends listen to it and start doing something honest. Start playing in some friends parties, in some pubs and cafés. And a new story can unfold.

Endlich hab ichs auch wieder mal an ein Konzert geschafft: The Kooks standen auf dem Programm.

Das heisst, zuerst waren The Mondrians, eine Rock’n'Roll-Band aus der Westschweiz, an der Reihe und gaben ziemlich Gas. Viel Spielfreude und Spass war auf jeden Fall dabei und die Jungs vermochten ziemlich Applaus einzuheimsen.

Dann, nach 22 Uhr, kamen endlich The Kooks, ihres Zeichens frisch gebackene Gewinner des MTV Europe Music Awards als Best Band UK&Ireland.

Das Publikum feierte den Konzertbeginn frenetisch. Apropos Publikum: Es waren erstaunlich viele Teenies anwesend, welche kräftig mitsingen konnten. Und sehr bald stellte sich heraus, dass es ziemlich naiv gewesen war, sich mit 26 Lenzen auf dem Buckel in den vordersten Reihen zu platzieren. Ab dem zweiten Song ging ganz schön die Post ab, inkl. misslungenen Crowd-Surfing-Versuchen, so dass ich mich als Konzert-Opa etwas weiter hinten positionierte.

Die Jungs verschossen sehr rasch viel Pulver und man begann sich unweigerlich zu fragen, wie sie es schaffen wollen, Material für mehr als eine halbe Stunde Konzert bereit zu haben. Die Antwort: ein Coversong, ein neuer(?) Song und ein relativ langer Unterbruch vor der Zugabe. So schaffte man immerhin etwa 50 Minuten, dann war aber Schluss.

Fazit: The Kooks haben zurecht weltweit Erfolg, denn ihre Songs sind toll. Live machen sie einen soliden Eindruck, vielleicht schon etwas zu routiniert für ihr junges Alter. Aber, auch wenn der Gig um Längen besser war als derjenige der Vines 2004 in der Roten Fabrik werde ich es mir das nächste Mal gut überlegen, ob es sich lohnt, für eine Band, die nur eine CD auf dem Markt hat von Bern nach Zürich zu fahren. Denn ein Konzert, das weniger als eine Stunde dauert ist halt doch etwas wenig fürs Geld.
